Once your nails are dry and you've dried them down well, make sure to reapply them with your fingers. The most popular nail polish is Mascara and it'll still work just fine but, on dry nail tips, I like to think it's as good as it gets. If you want a nicer look, take my advice and go with Mascara instead of Mascara and only apply nail polish at your own risk to your nails. The Mascara will be softer and thinner and will stay on for quite a while without any irritation. It will also be more natural looking, and will actually smell nicer.
