I'd recommend spraying with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and a clean wipe off if the nail is a little too dirty. I just have to use the right amount to put it in place before it scratches.

You do have to wash the nail down in warm water. This will help make it easier for the nail to get to this point before it clogs up your palette. I have been using this on my nails for so long that I don't really need the excess. The only time I would recommend this product is to wash your nails once you've put the nail polish on.
