For more than 1,000 years there has been a huge rise in the use of this ancient art form. More than 70 years ago, the art form was used as a form of writing using a wooden frame, a wooden pen which could be thrown over a stick by hand, and a wooden stake which was used to draw a single line of wood.

Archaeologist Dr Richard Chatterton told Channel 6 News that while these paintings are still widely considered to be of ancient period art, they are rarely seen as "artistic" because they were found abandoned after being excavated and buried within a few years.

"The archaeological excavations have found that these are still in the cultural environment of a period civilisation where there is a lot of cultural content in these paintings," he said.

"They contain very important cultural content of Ancient South Wales and it's very interesting to see that the art form of some of these paintings is considered 'artistic', and therefore used as a form of writing, and not necessarily the basis for writing," he added.

He said he was concerned there was no room for error in the depiction of the characters as they are not really depicted in any way by modern artwork.

In the latest dig at the site, Dr Chatterton said he noticed that the paint was so pale in color that the colour of the paint could be "apparently not only not human but also some
